More Preparations Made For Randolph-Lucas House Big Move

Although no date is set for the move of the historic Buckhead mansion, tons of preparations have been underway to dissemble the home and transport it down Peachtree.

The historic Randolph-Lucas Mansion is being prepared for its big move sometime this summer to its permanent home to 78 Peachtree Circle in Ansley Park.

In May, NewTown Partners founders Christopher Jones and Roger Smith agreed to help move the home, which was scheduled for demolition. Jones and Smith will use the home as their primary residence and have agreed to donate a preservation façade easement to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, ensuring that the house can never be torn down and that all future exterior changes or additions follow preservation standards.

In order for the historic home to make its journey down Peachtree Road and over three bridges total, it will be partially dissembled so that fewer utility lines will need to be temporarily displaced.

The brick veneer and the slate shingles will be removed from the building and transported separately. The veneer will be reinstalled, after being cleaned, once the home is set on its new foundation.

The house will be split above the first floor and roof will be hinged and lowered so that the house can be transported in two separate pieces. The maximum height of each section of the house will be 19 feet.

Interior preparations for the home were made last week. The entire project is being financed by Georgia Commerce Bank.

Buckhead Patch will continue to provide updates about the summer move date of the home.
