The Honorable Sam Massell, former Mayor or Atlanta,
will be presented the “Positive Aging Image Award” by the “Georgia Institute on Aging”.
This occasion will be held on October 3, 2012 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event entitled, “Changing Lives” is a chance to celebrate elder members being served by the Institute. This affair will also honor elders who have exhibited unique qualities of positive aging.
Since 1990 Georgia Institute on Aging has served as the educational arm of Leading Age Georgia. The Georgia Institute on Aging is the leading provider of timely and informative educational opportunities for its members and the residents they serve, state and local policy makers, as well as professionals in the field of aging and the community at large.
Today, the senior population is rapidly increasing as baby boomers are aging and life expectancy has increased. The Atlanta Regional Commission estimates that by the year 2030, one in five residents will be over the age of 60. Tremendous growth in Georgia and the greater Atlanta area is presenting insurmountable challenges for unprepared seniors.
