Skyland Trail Board Adds Three Members

Two Buckhead residents to help guide mental health facility

Jay D. Mitchell and Bob Walker of Buckhead and Charlotte Pierce-Baker have joined the board of Skyland Trail, a nonprofit treatment facility for adults with mental illness.

Their three-year terms began Jan. 1, according to a news release. The 24-member board guides the Buckhead facility through executive, financial and operational decisions.

Mitchell is executive vice president and general counsel for Buckhead-based Piedmont Healthcare Inc. and is responsible for legal affairs for the hospital system, including Piedmont Hospital. He's a member of the Cathedral of Christ the King Parish Council and a board member of RoadSafe America.

Walker, executive vice president of marketing and cross-platform development for the Weather Channel Companies, also works with the Atlanta Convention and Vistors Bureau executive committee and the Zoo Atlanta Board and is board chairman of First Tee of Atlanta. He also serves on the executive committee of the board of trustees for the Woodruff Arts Center and the Junior League Advisory Committee.

Dr. Pierce-Baker, professor of women's and gender studies and English at Vanderbilt University, is an activist and author. In 2008, she was selected as a fellow in the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities to study in the area of trauma. Her book "Surviving the Silence: Black Women's Stories of Rape," provided a forum for African-American women who'd survived sexual violence.
