St. Dunstan's Presents Gift of Love to Japanese Church Damaged in Earthquake

1,000 origami cranes presented to Japanese consul and will be sent to church damaged in earthquake

on Easter Sunday presented to Consul General Takuji Hanatani of the Japanese Consulate in Buckhead. The cranes were to be sent to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Mito, Japan, along with $5,000 from the church's Outreach Fund. The church was heavily damaged in the March 11 earthquake.

The church made the origami cranes during Lent as symbols of hope and prayer for the Japanese people, church pastor Patricia Templeton said. The crane project also raised funds for St. Dunstan's work with a school in Tanzania. Parishioners donated money for each crane completed, and the funds will buy mosquito nets and medical supplies for the school.
