Viewfinder: Folks Mingle at Buckhead Events

Social activities mark start of spring

With spring's arrival, the social calendar is busy in Buckhead. Here are a few of the recent events where people got together. Look in the gallery for photos.

North Buckhead Civic Association's annual meeting a success

The North Buckhead Civic Association held a successful annual meeting at St. James United Methodist Church, with more than 125 people attending to hear political leaders such as State Rep. Ed Lindsey and Atlanta COO Peter Aman.  The organization's third food drive was a huge success as well, with donations of almost 200 pounds of food, toiletries, diapers and other items.

Fashion contest at Lenox Square

Changing the beat, fashion and modeling took the spotlight at the Model for a Day contest last weekend at Lenox Square. Male and female winners were chosen to walk the runway with professional models at the Fashion Now Show April 2. Ashton Bass of Florissant, Mo., was the top female, and the male winner was Randall Robertson of Douglasville. Judges of the event included Lauren and Catherine Lee, the Decatur fashion bloggers known as the Asian Cajuns.

Skyland Trail Associates raise funds at luncheon

The Skyland Trail Associates at the group's fourth annual spring luncheon and fashion show raised more than $35,000 for Skyland Trail, a nonprofit treatment facility for adults with mental illness.

Guest speaker Julie Hersh, author of “Struck by Living: From Depression to Hope,” talked of her experiences as a mother, a corporate wife and suicide survivor, according to a news release. The event was at the Cherokee Town Club.

Saks Fifth Avenue showed fashions from its 2011 spring collection. Skyland Trail Associates President Sarah Goodman chaired the event, assisted by Vice President Leigh Pollard.
