Women Can Dance to Better Health

Piedmont Hospital sponsors free health screenings

Women can  put on their dancing shoes and take care of their health Saturday at a special event sponsored by 's Spirit of Women program.

The Day of Dance for Health from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at will feature education, free health screenings, discussions with physicians, dance instruction and demonstration and door prizes, according to a Piedmont news release. 

“Regular physical activity helps maintain proper body weight and improve general health, and what better way to get active than by dancing,” Dr. Randy Martin,, a cardiologist with Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians and master of ceremonies of the event, said in a statement. “Lack of physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for heart disease and stroke.”

Participants will enjoy special performances and line dance with Wild Bill’s Wild Team, learn the cha cha and swing with Arthur Murray Dance Studio instructors,  join in jazz and hip hop with the Atlanta Ballet, watch a belly dancing demonstration and learn basic self-defense moves with Tai-Chi. 

Free health screenings and education will include blood pressure checks, cholesterol and glucose screenings, sleep health assessments, stroke risk assessments, diabetes and nutrition education, and peripheral artery disease screenings. Piedmont physicians will also be on hand to answer  health questions.

Last year more than 430 participants and 120 volunteers attended the event. More than 350 free health screenings were provided. To register, visit piedmonthospital.org/spiritofwomen.
