Design Conversation: Dr. Nicholas Giovinco on 3D Printing in the Medical Industry
Rapid Prototyping, 3D Printing and additive manufacturing are all popular terms to describe the overnight success of this fascinating field of production that is nearly a quarter of a century old. During this lecture, Dr. Giovinco will describe several vignettes of how the process is used in Medical and Surgical Research. As 3D printing becomes more sophisticated, it is likely to do more than provide more, cheaper things in the world, but rather an entirely new world altogether.
Dr. Nicholas A. Giovinco, DPM is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University Medical Center, in Tucson, AZ. He has completed a foot and ankle surgical residency at Dekalb Medical, in Decatur, GA., and is a faculty member of the Podiatry Institute. He has published in areas of the foot and ankle literature for reconstruction, sports medicine, trauma, technology and wound healing. His research endeavors include 3D printing and eye-tracking, as well a number of other collaborations within the Makerspace community (namely Freeside Atlanta’s Premier Hackerspace). Lecture begins at 6:30 pm and will be followed by a Q&A.
