Free Lecture Series at Covenant Presbyterian Church
Covenant Presbyterian Church (www.covenantpresbyterian.us)
presents its 2013 Mitchell Speaker Series Thursday evenings, Sept. 12, Oct. 10
and Nov. 14. Endowed by the
Mitchell Women’s Christian Education Fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church, this
year’s theme is “Take a Risk, Make a Difference”, and all of the presentations
are free and open to the public. The
programs will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall, and will begin at 7 p.m.
with coffee and dessert, followed by the presentations from 7:30 – 8:30
p.m. Attendees may park for free on the
top deck of the Peachtree
Battle Shopping
Center parking lot, immediately south of the
church, located at 2461 Peachtree
Road.
Aparna Bhattacharyya will speak Thursday, Sept. 12. She is executive director of Raksha, a
Georgia-based non-profit that promotes a stronger and better South Asian
community through confidential support services, education and advocacy. Bhattacharyya recently was named a “Champion
of Change” during a ceremony at The White House for her work on behalf of
battered women in the Asian-American community.
The recipient of numerous awards, the Atlanta
native currently serves on the board of the Georgia coalition Against Domestic
Violence and the National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project. She is Chairperson of the Board of VIDA Legal
Assistance and will share her experiences working to end domestic violence in the Asian
community.
