Growing Herbs For The Home Medicine Chest

In this class, you will learn to propagate some health supporting go-to herbs, focusing on plants that are easiest to grow in our climate and most useful for a home medicine chest: echinacea, mountain mint, comfrey, valerian and ashwaghanda, for example.  We’ll take woody cuttings and/or seed herbs (depending on time of year) for you to bring home to your garden. Basic gardening experience helpful but not necessary.

About the Location: The Southeastern Horticultural Society (SHS) is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge, art and enjoyment of horticulture throughout the Southeastern United States. SHS Partnered with the East Lake Community  to create the East Lake Learning Garden & Urban Farm. The garden has grown to include a farm where produce is grown that is then either sold at the Farmers Market next door, sold to neighboring restaurants, or given to or harvested by neighborhood residents. The East Lake garden and farm has become a true “campus” where children, teens, young adults, families and the elderly come to receive horticultural education, spend time with neighbors, and learn about cultivating a healthy lifestyle.
