Buckhead Coalition Partners with Gas South to Help Kids with Sports Injuries

The initiative would mean a $50 credit to Buckhead Gas South customers who enroll in the program.

From the Buckhead Coalition:

Sam Massell, founding president of the Buckhead Coalition and a former Mayor of Atlanta, has announced an arrangement to help kids hurt playing school sports.  Taking note of the growing issue of 12- to 18-year-olds suffering brain and spinal-cord injuries and other sports-related accidents, and pride that Buckhead is home to the country’s only adolescent spinal care program, Massell stated, “Our challenge is to secure a supplemental source of funding as a major benefit.”  Shepherd reports over 50 patients in the program.

He then unveiled the civic source for such an effort, learned of through the Georgia Municipal Association.  Here, programs have been reported of Gas South partnering with various governmental entities with monetary rewards for incremental business, which have included abutting governments of the City of Sandy Springs and the County of DeKalb.

Mayor Massell demonstrated to Gas South that the 28-square-mile Buckhead Community of 44 neighborhoods with a combined population of 78,000, residents was much like a city and that the nonprofit Coalition would serve as a pass-through of commissions to Shepherd.  Under Georgia’s deregulation, Atlanta Gas Light will deliver the natural gas and maintain the lines, etc.

Marketing the service, which the customer or company can cancel at any time, will be coördinated through direct-mail and advertising in local periodicals.

Through October 5, 2013, Gas South will provide a $50 credit to Buckhead residents and businesses that enroll in the program.  All Buckhead natural gas consumers are eligible for a discount off Gas South’s published rates for as long as they remain customers. Additionally, Gas South will waive the $60 connection fee for establishing service at a new residence.  The initial funding payable to the Shepherd Center is $5,000, and will increase annually based on program participation.  It is the goal of Gas South and the Buckhead Coalition that funding will eventually reach $25,000 per year.

“Gas South is excited to work with Mayor Massell and the staff and board of directors at the Buckhead Coalition.  This win-win proposition will provide discounts on natural gas service for Buckhead residents and businesses as well as sustained annual funding for the Shepherd Center’s programs,” said Kevin Greiner, Gas South president and CEO.  “The Buckhead Coalition is one of our region’s most respected civic organizations, and we are honored to have the opportunity to partner with them on this worthy cause.”
