of the Diplomatic Leadership Corps (DLC) participated
in this past Saturday's Peachtree Creek cleanup in Buckhead.
DLC, an organization of 25 young Buckhead leaders formed by the Buckhead Coalition as part of its 25th Anniversary legacy celebrations, spent several hours removing trash and tires from the creek that along with Tanyard Creek, funnels water from an immense natural drainage basin that serves some 55,000 acres of land ranging from Decatur to Dunwoody.
The effort was part of the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy's aim to
create a Master Plan for the property that currently includes Bobby Jones Golf
Course, Bitsy Grant Tennis Center and Atlanta Memorial Park.
The Master Plan will focus, among other things, on solutions to improve conditions on those segments of Peachtree Creek and Tanyard Creek running through the Park, including storm water management and flood mitigation; restoration and preservation of creek beds to prevent further erosion; and management of sewer-related issues.
The Buckhead Coalition is an influential nonprofit civic association, much like a chamber of commerce, for the northern quadrant of the city. Its membership is limited to 100 CEOs of major area firms, by invitation. Its mission is to “nurture the quality of life and help coordinate an orderly growth” within its 28 square miles, with a population of 78,000.
