We’re Giving Away $3k! Help Your Favorite Cause Get a Share

Patch employees are active volunteers in our communities, stepping away from our laptops to give back during our Give 5 days. Our next volunteer day is May 10, and we decided to give more than our time this month. We're donating $3,000 to local charities.

Want to get the word out about the good work that a nonprofit is doing in your community? Post an announcement on Patch!

We're not a stuffy, old-fashioned community news site. We actually make it easy for you to share the good news in your neighborhood.

If you're coming to this article on an iPhone, we apologize, but you can't see our entry form. Please visit Patch from a computer to take part in our Nonprofit Newsletter drive.

We want to make an impact in our community to display the level that Breast Cancer has made. Foxs Trotters is here in our community doing great things to bring women and families together to support one another, encourage and uplift those that have endured a diagnosis. We stress the importance of Raising Awareness and providing multiple levels of support. We want women to know that even though they may have received a diagnosis they are still worthy and have valued to add to their families and the community. We're comprised of families that have gone on this journey and we walk to support others.
Please give us your support as a community that is united and standing together. Foxs Trotters walks to support several organizations; Pink ribbon Walk, American Cancer Society, and Relay for Life. You can find out more about them and us on the Patch blog or: Foxs Trotters.blogspot.com on twitter @foxstrotters on face book - Foxs Trotters This is a fight that no one should have to endure alone. Everyone Deserves A Lifetime!

I would like to nominate the Lilburn Co-Op as they help local families in need.
Also, I would like to say that please think hard before considering donating to Daffy's Pet Kitchen (it's mentioned above) because I doubt most people THAT REALLY NEED HELP for their pets would ever see it! Daffy's will not help people's pets unless they have been spayed/neutered & have their shot records up to date. Well...who are they to judge if a person is temporarily down on their luck & obviously if they could afford to get their INDOOR animals fixed they wouldn't be in a position to need temporary assistance. Who is anyone to judge any pet owner as a "bad pet owner" for not fixing their pet - all kinds of scenarios can prove otherwise. Maybe a poor family kindly, lovingly took in an unwanted, unloved animal that another just dropped & that family cares for it the best they can to give it a chance, maybe the pet is indoors only, maybe some owners feel it's bad to spay or neuter, maybe the pet isn't old enough & so on. Daffy's Pet Kitchen should be ashamed for even nominating themselves! They claim to help animals in need, but they are choosy, snobby, judgemental & wrong. So an animal doesn't have the right to eat well if it's body parts aren't snipped to Daffy's idea of what a good pet owner should be...pitiful. People that claim to help other people & animals normally don't play favorites in the process!!

I'm here to shout the praises of the ATLANTA HUMANE SOCIETY. They are Atlanta's oldest private charitable organization founded in 1873. AHS does not euthanize for time or space. They are a pet adoption center with a proven track record of helping the city' homeless, abused, and neglected animals and offer many additional public-wide services, including a Canine Play Yard for potential adopters, spaying and neutering, dog training and educational programs, and a veterinary clinic. They serve Atlantan's that cannot speak for themselves and that's beautiful!
Tammy May 8, 2012 at 05:03 pm
ATLANTA HUMANE SOCIETY will also spay/neuter your pat at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them.

Pregnancy Resource Center. The people are great there. I used to volunteer there. They are a great bunch of people. It's a great place to go, they give helpful advice and also have the mom bucks to help families get clothes and other essential items for their children. They also provide great parenting classes.

We would like For a Day Foundation to have an oppurtunity to be considered. We are an organization that works @ the AFLAC cancer center @ Children's Healthcare of Atlanta on a very intimate and special level. We provide events on a regular basis for the in patients and their families to help them remember what it is like to be a kid "for a day" while going through their grueling cancer treatments and hospitalizations. We offer programming called "superhero for a day", "queen for a day" and "winter wonderland for a day" that focuses on building self esteem and courage for the kids! We have many volunteers from the Dacula community! As we start new programming this summer, funding is needed! Please contact Nikki @ 812-219-6622. Thanks!

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Ms. Stack through her support of the elementary school her children attend. I admire the work she and all of the volunteers associated with Backpack BLESSings do to provide hundreds of children nourishment during weekends and breaks from school. Often the only decent meal our students receive is at school, Ms. Stack and her fellow heros help fill the void and make the lives of so many children a little better. Please support this tremendous effort in our community.

KYFA Gives Back May 9, 2012 at 04:03 pm
I LOVE reading about all the wonderful programs out there and all the support! I would personally like to mention Kennesaw Youth Football Association where I'm a proud board member and parent to a player. Through our football and cheer program we are committed to teaching fundamentals while instilling the ideals of good sportsmanship, loyalty, integrity, self-respect and the positive attributes of participating in team sports. As a parent I know first hand how much programs like this mean not only to the community but to the kids who are a part of them. We would not be able to do what we do without the fabulous parents who are involved and the support of our community. At KYFA it's not just about football or winning, it's about family and giving back. Yeah for KYFA!!! You can check us out at www.leaguelineup.com/kyfamustangs

Kennesaw Youth Football Association is a blessing to the community! What a way to get kids involved in a friendly atmosphere to play ball and cheer! I love the community feel at the field and how much everyone gets involved. I couldn't ask for a better environment for fall ball, not only for my son but for my family! Go Mustangs!!!

Backpack BLESSings in Austell is fantastic. Students on free or reduced lunch get a good meal during the week, but what happens on the weekend? Thanks to this offering, these 200 kids get food for the weekend! For some, it is all they will get. Kids can't learn and grow if they are hungry.

Camp Mays is a summer program that a teacher at Kennedy elementary school in winder ga started. She takes autistic children on outings at least once a week all summer so the kids have a chance to go places and have fun while giving their parents a chance to catch up on errands and other things during the summer while the kids are out of school.
