GA 400 bike trail
Opinion on the GA 400 bike trail and its potential effect on the community.
I have been anxiously following news related to the possible opening of the GA 400 bike trail in the next few years. I am an avid biker and have lived in cities, such as Chicago and Washington DC, that boast incredible bike trails. Since I moved to Buckhead, however, 5 years ago, my bike has remained in the closet. The only exercise I get is in my apartment complex's weight/gym room. Piedmont Park is nice but it really is a bit too far to the south, although I try to get there once a week. Chastain Park is too far to the north for me to really enjoy. Buckhead definitely needs the GA 400 bike trail, as a place for people to gather and exercise. Buckhead is choking in traffic along Peachtree and Piedmont, and the bike trail could really help in the effort to alleviate traffic woes as well. It's really a win win for the whole community and it disappoints me to see certain groups fighting it. It is well known that Buckhead is suffering from a lack of park space and it also suffers from being a car-centric place. The bike trail could really be something the whole community could rally around and benefit from. The community really needs to come together behind this proposal and make it happen as soon as humanely possible. Until then, I will be relegated to my apartment exercise room.
