Richard L. Bennett, 77: Family Came First, But He Loved a Good Game of Golf

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at The Northside Methodist Church in Buckhead.

Richard Laird Bennett, 77, died Jan. 15, 2014 at Hospice Atlanta.

He was born on March 20, 1936 in Atlanta and attended Brown High School and Georgia State College.

Although his family always came first, a good golf game with his friends was the next best thing. He enjoyed photography, traveling, especially to the beach with the family, and could work in the yard for hours. He never met a stranger and had an ability to start a conversation with almost anyone.

He retired as a manufacturer's representatitve in the office furniture business and found many ways to stay busy and active.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Annie and Howard Bennett.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Norris Bennett; son, Richard Keith Bennett (Jan); daughter, Cindy Bennett Butler (Clark); four grandchildren, Caroline Butler, Bennett Butler, Alex Bennett and Jack Bennett.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. at The Northside Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Dr., Atlanta, GA with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. A reception will follow in the Faith and Arts Center at the church.

Donations may be made to the Northside Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
