Senior Zach Steinfeld is Pace’s 2013 STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student. Sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educations Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Education, the STAR program requires nominees to have achieved the top SAT score on a single test date and to be in the top 10 percent of their class. STAR students choose teachers who inspired them to strive for academic excellence as STAR teachers. Steinfeld recognized Dr. John Pearson, who teaches math and science at Pace.
Zach is incredibly involved in the Pace community. During his sophomore year, he founded Baking for Breast Cancer, a club that, through regular bake sales, has since raised more than $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Zach serves on Pace’s Student Advisory Board and as a peer tutor. He also participates in the Model United Nations program and the Knights Capitol club. He has been an active participant in Pace’s performing arts programs as a member of the Upper School chorus and Octet and Troubadours ensembles, and he performed in the school’s recent productions of Curtains and West Side Story. Zach also runs cross country, is a member of the swimming and diving team, and plays varsity baseball for the Pace Knights.
Zach is a national finalist for the Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel and was selected for the Governor’s Honors Program for French (state semifinalist) in the summer of 2012. He is a member of the Cum Laude and National Honor Societies and a Sanford and Barbara Orkin Honor Scholar. In 2012, Zach received the Frank Smith Woodling Community Service Award and the Columbia University Book Award. In addition, he is an AP Scholar with Honor and received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Outside of Pace, Zach teaches monthly cotillion classes and is involved at The Temple, where he serves as a Trope reader during Sabbath services. He has explored South Africa and the Czech Republic with Pace Academy and has traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and Central and South America.
Zach is the son of Shayna and Bruce Steinfeld.
