Adult, 4 juveniles in stolen car arrested in Buckhead

Alert Zone 2 officers notice speeding auto, chase suspects

Atlanta Zone 2 officers patroling in Buckhead early Wednesday morning pursued a speeding car that turned out to be stolen and arrested four juveniles and an adult, according to police spokesman Carlos Campos.

The pursuit just after midnight resulted in a lengthy foot chase through Chastain Park, in which one of the officers captured Garris Griffin, 29, of southeast Atlanta and a juvenile, Campos said, A Sandy Springs K-9 unit assisted in the park chase.

Campos said the officers noticed a Dodge Stratus with its high beam lights on speeding near the 3000 block of Powers Ferry Road. Officers stopped the car, but the driver sped away. "The driver bailed from the moving vehicle," Campos said, leading to the chase through the park.

Griffin and the four juveniles, two aged 15 and two 14, were charged with auto theft, Campos said. Griffin and one of the 15-year-olds were charged with obstruction.

The Atlanta Police Department has been targeting enforcement of the city’s curfew law for juveniles this summer and is pursuing potential charges for violations as a result of this incident, Campos said.
