Fallen Atlanta Officer to be Honored at Annual Memorial

Tuesday's ceremony is dedicated to Gail Thomas, the Atlanta police officer killed in the line of duty in January.

The Atlanta Police Department will hold its 21th Annual Memorial Service on Tuesday and the service will be dedicated to Senior Police Officer Gail Denise Thomas, the second female Atlanta police officer to be killed in the line of duty.

On Jan. 24, Thomas was struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver. Thomas had been assisting another officer at a traffic accident on the Brookwood Interchange ramp between Buckhead and Midtown.

Thomas was a 20-year city employee, 15 of which she spent as an APD officer. The service will take place on May 1 at 11 a.m., in the Atrium at City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.

The memorial service, which will be streamed live and stored here, pays tribute to all of the Atlanta Police Department's fallen officers and their families.
