ARRESTED: Buckhead Man in Hit and Run Outside The Cheetah Club

An arrest was made in the brutal Hit and Run from last night.

The AJC is reporting that the Atlanta Police Department made an arrest late Friday of the person suspected of critically injuring a young woman just before 7 p.m. on Friday, near The Cheetah Club.

According to the AJC report, "the injured woman, whose name was not released, was hit by an SUV in the 800 block of Spring Street near The Cheetah club shortly before 7 p.m."

The Atlanta police department reported that around 6:30 pm. officers responded to the call at 887 Spring Street, finding the 29-year-old woman who had been struck by a vehicle. She was transported to Grady Hospital in critical but stable condition.

The APD reported that the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking on the sidewalk when she was struck and run over by an SUV. The SUV did not stop and left the scene.

Investigators say that a silver Land Rover was spotted leaving the scene of the incident and was later found by police along with the suspected driver.

Robert Edward Fitzgerald, 45, of Buckhead, was charged with hit & run/failure to render aid, DUI Alcohol, serious injury by vehicle. On Saturday afternoon he remained in custody at Fulton County Jail.
