Atlanta Police Say Thefts from Vehicles are Down in Buckhead

Thefts from vehicles were down in January, but robberies spike.

Atlanta Police Maj. Van Hobbs, Buckhead's Zone 2 commander, attended this week's NPU-B meeting and told local residents that thefts from vehicles was down 14 percent in January compared to that of 2012.

According to the Reporters Newspaper, Hobbs told NPU-B that Zone 2, "started a process over the holidays where we saturated the area with a holiday detail. We looked at the areas where more cars were being hit and increased patrols up and down Peachtree and Piedmont and other major thoroughfares. And that’s seemed to work out pretty well.”

Overall, crime was up 8 percent in Zone 2 for the year 2012.

Despite being down in the number of thefts from cars, Zone 2 has seen a increase in robberies and aggravated assaults so far in 2013.

The Buckhead Bandit is suspected to have committed 10 robberies along and around Peachtree Road in Buckhead, Brookhaven and Midtown.

Hobbs told residents that he, "got some new leads on that, and we believe we know who the individual is.”

Are you kidding? There have been at least 6 last week. I know that the goodwill on Roswell had five cars smashed and contents stolen, one similar smash and grab on Roswell (Cambridge International Preschool), Open Arms (daycare had various). A teacher was attacked and her laptop stolen at Galloway. There is a real problem going on right now. You need to update this article.
