Body of Veteran Last Seen at Buckhead Bar Found in Brookhaven

The Army vet was last seen leaving a Buckhead bar around 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Search crews found the body of a missing Army veteran in his car on Thursday night in Brookhaven.

Randal Andrew Ackerman, who was recently honorably discharged from the army after a tour in Afghanistan, was last seen departing a Buckhead bar at 3182 Roswell Road, around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Ackerman was found by Georgia State Patrol dead inside his overturned Ford Focus  off of Johnson Ferry Road and Mill Creek around 6 p.m.

In a statement to Patch, GSP stated that when GSP troopers responded to investigate a traffic crash, they found the car had left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and overturned. The exact day and time of the crash has not been determined at this time.

A Facebook page devoted to help locate Ackerman now has become a place for friends and family to leave heartfelt words about the Sandy Springs resident and to grieve together.

Someone close to Ackerman posted that the veteran's friends and family would like privacy and time to move on from the tragedy.

He posted:
"...we would all appreciate as much time and space to grieve and mourn Andrew. We would also like to maintain privacy as we move on from this. Our friend, brother, son, and hero is no longer with us. Please pray for him and remember him in your hearts. He was an incredible person inside and out and will be eternally missed in this world. One of the most loving and caring individuals we have all encountered. Thank you all again for your efforts over the past few days. Friends and family of Andrew Ackerman will never forget the amount of people that responded and the prayers that were received for his return. May God bless all of you and may God bless his soul. R.I.P my brother. That's all I can say for now. I am sorry. Please give me and his family some time."

Police do not suspect foul play.
