AJC.com also has reported that Lowe and another vehicle were racing each other down Peachtree Road late Thursday evening when Lowe was pulled over by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

According to the GSP public information office, a trooper stopped Lowe around 10 pm near the Buckhead intersection of Peachtree Road and Rumson. (A MapQuest search of the intersection shows St. Philip's Episcopal Cathedral on one side of the intersection.)

"During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," the State Patrol statement said. "He administered field sobriety and Lowe was subsequently arrested. The request for a breath test was refused."

The statement said Lowe was released to pre-trial on the charges.

A call to Lowe's agent, Scott Boras, has not been returned.
