Buckhead Crime Blotter: Body Found by Off-Duty Officer

See what crimes were reported for the last few weeks of 2012.

The following police reports were filed Dec. 9-29 by Zone 2 of the Atlanta Police Department and submitted to Buckhead Patch. During this period, the zone filed 342 police reports. All information is presumed to be accurate. Buckhead Patch is providing some of the reports filed in this blotter.

Dec. 9- 15: Total of 113 crimes reported

Mostly smash-and-grabs and shoplifting.

An officer observed a man trying to steal copper wire at the 1400 block of  Fairmont Ave.  NW before trying to hide in the upper level of the building. Officers located and then arrested the man.

Aggravated Assault 12/9/12 6:30-7 p.m.

A man entered the Darlington Apartments’ workout area at the 2000 block of Peachtree Road NW with a can of pepper spray in his hand. The suspect then sprayed another man, who was walking on the treadmill, in the face and then he left. The suspect returned later and was arrested.

 

Robbery-Pedestrian 12/10/12 9:10 p.m.

A suspect with a handgun approached the victim near the 2300 block of Peachtree Road NE and demanded his wallet and cell phone. The suspect was last seen running south on Peachtree Road.

 

Other Larceny 12/11/12 5:30-6 p.m.

The suspect stole the victim’s glasses after they got into an over a recent break-up at Piedmont Hospital.

 

Other Larceny 12/9-10/12 10 a.m.

Store employee at Hollister in Lenox Square reports 52 bottles of cologne stolen from the store between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. No suspects.

 

Dec. 16-22: Total of 135 crimes reported

Other Larceny 12/19/12 7:40-7:52 a.m.

A woman told police that a man snatched her iPhone out of her hand and ran up the stairwell in the hospital at 1968 Peachtree Road NW.

 

Other Larceny, 12/20/12

A man said a man snatched his iPhone and took off running from the building.

 

Other Larceny 12/17/12 2-3 p.m.

The reporting person told police that 84 pairs of panties were stolen from a display table on the showroom floor at Soma Intimates at 3500 Peachtree Road NE.

 

Aggravated Assault, 12/15/12 2-4 a.m.

The victim woke up in his apartment at the 2700 block of Pine Tree Road NE to find a bullet hole in the wall of his closet after hearing a loud noise the night before.

 

Homicide, 12/18/12 5:05-5:25 p.m.

An unidentified man was found dead in the woods near 1700 Piedmont Ave. NE by an off-duty officer as he walked his dog. His cause of death had not been determined. (Buckhead Patch is looking into this case to get more details and possible updates.)

Dec. 23-29: Total of 94 incidents

Aggravated Assault, 12/26/12 12:02 a.m.

Two men attacked a man in the restroom at Midtown Bowl at 1936 Piedmont Circle NE. The victim’s friends chased down the two attackers into the parking lot where one of them produced a gun and fired in their direction. A shell casing was found at the scene. One victim was taken to Grady Hospital, but everyone was ultimately uninjured. One witness identified the two suspects.

 

Residential Burglary, 12/28/12 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Victim said someone took his key from a box and went into his home at the 1300 block of Summit North Drive NE and stole gifts he’d purchased for his family. He also found his injured cat outside his apartment.

 

Aggravated Assault, 12/23/12 7:30-8 p.m.

The arrestee chased the victim around his home on the 2600 block of Lenox Road NE with a large knife, threatening his life. When she couldn’t catch him, she threw a knife at him.

 

Other Larceny, 12/15-17/12 2 a.m. to 7 p.m

A woman told police that she discovered her handgun missing from the nightstand by her bed where she last placed it in her home on the 4400 block of Wieuca Road NE. She was unsure how it disappeared.

 

Residential Burglary, 12/19-23/12 12 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A woman said she last saw her jewelry box when she kicked it under her bed in her home on the 3400 block of Tuxedo Road NE. She returned and noticed her box with more than $40,000 worth of jewelry was gone. The victim said there was no sign of forced entry. She said the only people who have access are her daughter and her housekeeper.
