Buckhead Mansion Devastated by Fire Tuesday

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area near Habersham and West Wesley roads for several hours.

Update: April 2, 2014, 6:00 AM:

Firefighters spent Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning monitoring hot spots and flare ups at the Buckhead mansion that went up in flames around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The nearly 100-year-old home, located near the intersection of Habersham and West Wesley roads, was destroyed from the blaze that spread very quickly from the attic according to Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran.

The home sits back on the property and the distance did affect water pressure available in fighting the fire at the home where the top floor ultimately collapsed.

The AJC reported that some family members were at the home when the fire started, but were able to escape unharmed. No firefighters were reportedly injured fighting the blaze.

Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire at the home where almost all that is left are four standing columns. Read and see video coverage here from WSB-TV.

Original story:

A multi-million dollar Buckhead home on Habersham Road near West Wesley Road became engulfed in flames during the early Tuesday evening rush hour.

Live video provided by WSB TV made it appear as if the fire started upstairs, and it didn't take long to spread as responding fire fighters were briefly delayed in getting water on the blaze.

The television news outlet reported that there were no injuries reported as neighbors and onlookers were kept well off the large piece of property. The white columned home looked as if it was completely destroyed.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area until firefighters can fully contain the blaze.
