Buckhead Crime Blotter: July 1 - 7

Here is a look at Zone 2 police activity from the first week in July.

The following police reports were filed Juy 1 - 7 by Zone 2 of the Atlanta Police Department and submitted to Buckhead Patch. All information is presumed to be accurate

Auto-theft 7/3/12

While on routine patrol at 12:50 p.m., police observed two males pushing scooters down Huff Road NE. Upon stopping and speaking with one of the males, an officer observed the ignition key not in the scooter. The other male in question was seen placing the scooter to the ground and stepping into the wood line in an attempt to separate himself from the other scooter. Upon attempting to speak with that male, he fled the scene by jumping over a fence.

One of the males in question was later apprehended after a brief foot chase. Both officers received minor injuries during the pursuit and apprehension of the subject. Police learned from that suspect where the scooters had been taken from, which was later confirmed as a lower level residential parking deck.

The scooters were returned to the owner. One subject was still outstanding at the time of the report.

Robbery 7/5/12

Police responded to the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel around 8 p.m. where the victim stated he willingly let another male into his room for a drink. While in the bathroom, the victim said his friend let another male acquaintance into the room. Upon coming out of the bathroom, the victim was apparently confronted by both males, one of which was holding a gun. 

They demanded several valuables from the victim and then fled the scene with the valuables enclosed in a pillowcase.

The victim reportedly gave chase and advised the valet he had been the victim of a robbery. Investigators arrived on the scene and reviewed video footage of the incident, where they determined the victim was not being forthcoming about what happened.

Aggravated assault 7/2/12

Police on patrol on Piedmont Road NE after 4 a.m. noticed a male subject stagger into the street. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered the male was a victim of an aggravated assault. Witnesses to the assault said three males beat the victim, causing lacerations to his nose and a chipped tooth. 

The victim was extremely combative and intoxicated at the time of the report. While en route to the hospital, the victim reportedly absconded from the rear of the ambulance but was later detained by another unit.

The suspects were not located.

Aggravated assault 7/4/12

The victim told police he returned home at the San Lucia Apartments, 651 Morosgo Dr. NE, late from a night out at a club on Buford Highway. Upon entering his residence, he was confronted by two unknown males who assaulted him about the face and body with an unknown object. The victim sustained injuries to his face, neck and arms.

Aggravated assault 7/2/12

Police responded to 2632 Church St. NW around 1 a.m. to find that five suspects had been involved in a physical altercation with the victim, who sustained injury to his right shoulder.

Larceny 7/01/12

Just after 2 a.m. police were flagged down on 3771 Roswell Road in reference to a dispute between a taxi driver and unknown male. The victim said an intoxicated male suspect approached him about a ride but did not have any money. After telling the the suspect he could not ride without money for the fare, he reportedly became irate and snatched the taxi cab key from the ignition and fled the scene. Police canvassed the area but the suspect was not located.

Commercial burglary 7/4/12

Someone broke into Heritage Plastics, 1135 Chattahoochee Ave. NW overnight by making forced entry into the building through the garage door. A significant amount of copper from a large breaker box was stolen.

Larceny from auto 7/05/12

The victim advised that as he returned to his vehicle at 1750 Commerce Dr. late in the morning, he discovered the wheels and tires missing. Witnesses advised seeing a Blue Chevrolet Caprice in the area at the time of the theft.

Larceny 7/6/12

A shoplifter reportedly walked out the front door of Walmart, 1801 Howell Mill Road NW, with a rolling cooler without paying for the item around 3 p.m.

Residential burglary 7/1/12

An apartment at 211 Colonial Homes Dr. NW was burglarized overnight when someone broke out a window with a rock, entered the residence and stole a laptop.

Residential burglary 7/2/12

Police responded around 5:30 p.m. to a residence at 788 Wilson Road, where an unknown suspect kicked in the basement door and stole a flat screen television from the upstairs area.

Larceny from auto 7/5/12

Victims returned to their 2007 Chevrolet Silverado at the Goodwill, 1460 Northside Dr. NW, at around 3 p.m. to find the door handle damaged. The vehicle had reportedly been broken into and a .45 caliber handgun, a Motorola Tablet, driver's license and social security card stolen. 

Residential burglary 7/04/12

An unknown suspect kicked in the back door of the victim's home at 4293 Rickenbacker Way NE and stole the hot water heater and refrigerators.

Commercial burglary 7/3/12

An employee at Cruz Associates, 3025 Piedmont Road NE, told police that upon returning to work in the afternoon he noticed the air conditioning was not working. A technician responded to the scene and discovered that two air conditioning units had been taken from the location.
