Buckhead's Silver Thief Strikes Again in Athens

The thief thought to have stolen silverware worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in Buckhead in Atlanta, Columbus, GA, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama has struck multiple homes in Athens.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, the thief has the same mode of operation as the one committing the silver burglaries in Buckhead. He carefully cuts out a pane of glass, creeps into the homes while the owners are home and steals the valuable silver.

On three different days at three different homes, the silver thief stole $30,000 worth of silver in Athens.

The thief is thought to be a professional and knows what silverware is worth taking.

There were four in January, with one just a few doors down from the Governor's Mansion.

In November and December 2012, the thief hit five Buckhead homes stealing $75,000 to $100,000 worth of silverware.

And in April 2012, there were three silver thefts in Buckhead: on Tuxedo Road, Woodward Way and Northside Drive.

Almost all of these thefts had the same M.O. Last week, Major Van Hobbs, commander of the Atlanta Police Department's Zone 2, told Buckhead Patch that they are following leads on the thief, but cannot yet release details.
