Charges Filed in Officer-Involved Wreck in Buckhead

The Atlanta police officer was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital though she was visibly uninjured.

A driver who struck an Atlanta police cruiser while attempting to make a turn in Buckhead Monday morning has been charged in the accident.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Yenenesh Gurmessa was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Piedmont road on to East Paces Ferry Road at 6 a.m. Monday when her car collided with the southound patrol car driven by Officer P. Marshall.

The wreck caused the air bags in Marshall's car to deploy, and Marshall became trapped inside her vehicle. Firefighters extricated Marshall from the car and transported her to Grady Memorial Hospital, though she had no visible injuries.

Gurmessa was not injured, but has been charged with failure to yield.

Southbound lanes of Piedmont Road were closed to traffic until approximately 7:15 a.m.
