Driver Indicted in Death of Atlanta Firefighter in New Orleans
Sgt. Frank Guinn, a nine-year veteran of the Atlanta Fire Department, was hit and killed by a motorist while bicycling in New Orleans last month.
The driver accused of negligence in the death of an Atlanta firefighter who was struck while bicycling in New Orleans last month has been indicted by an Orleans Parish grand jury.
Howard Vidrine, 33, has been charged with one count each of negligent homicide and negligent injuring. The Gretna, La., man is accused of speeding and driving recklessly on the morning of April 11 when he crashed into Sgt. Frank Guinn and his brother-in-law, Andrew Powell, along Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East.
The two cyclists were training for the Ochsner IRONMAN 70.3 New Orleans at the time of the accident. Guinn, 36, died at the scene of the accident and is survived by a wife and three young daughters. Powell was left severely injured.
