Pedestrian Struck by Drunk Driver Charged With Illegally Crossing Roadway

Drunk driver and pedestrian both charged in early morning accident.

A woman who was struck by a drunk driver in Buckhead was charged for illegally crossing a roadway, according to Atlanta police.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, police were called to The Ivy at 3717 Roswell Road. An off-duty police officer had notified dispatch of a female who was struck by a vehicle in front of the location.

“On scene, the female was lying in the middle of the street breathing, but unconscious,” said Officer Kim Jones, a spokeswoman for the Atlanta Police Department. “Both sides of the street were closed to traffic, and a crime scene was established.”

Police found the suspect vehicle in a parking lot near The Ivy. “The vehicle located had significant front-end damage, and broken pieces of the truck were recovered at the scene that matched the suspect vehicle,” Jones said.

The DUI Task Force Units responded to the scene and arrested the driver of the vehicle for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and several other traffic charges, Jones said. The name was not released.

 The woman was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police charged her with failure to use a crosswalk. Her name was not released.
