Police Following Leads in Sex Assault Case

Commander Major Van H. Hobbs Jr. said patrols are still up in the area where the assault took place.

New Zone 2 Commander Major Van H. Hobbs Jr. told the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods on Thursday night that police were following up on leads received from Crime Stoppers Atlanta in regard to the recent sexual assault in Buckhead.

No arrest has been made but Hobbs, who was one of the council's featured speakers for the night, said police are "keeping our patrols up" in regards to the Lindbergh area, where the assault happened after 4 a.m. on April 28.

Police previously released a sketch of the suspected assailant and say the same man may be tied to similar crimes in the area over the past few years.

The victim told police she arrived home with her roommates, and awoke some time later to find a man fondling her. The man stole items before leaving the apartment.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5’-8” to 5’-10” tall, with a dark complexion and wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt with dark-colored pants. (The police sketch accompanies this article.)

Police listed several incidents that may be related to the same suspect. The behavior of the suspect in these cases was similar, and there was no sign of forced entry in any of the incidents:

  • December 6, 2009/Peachtree Park Drive
  • January 1, 2011/Lenox Road
  • January 5, 2011/Peachtree Park Drive
  • January 19, 2011/Peachtree Park Drive
  • October 31, 2011/Lindbergh Drive
  • November 12, 2011/Peachtree Park Drive

Police are asking people with information to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip through www.crimestoppersatlanta.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
