Police Make Arrest in Buckhead's Pillowcase Silverware Thefts

Police expect to make more arrests in the near future.

Atlanta Police announced Monday that they have made an arrest in a series of burglaries where thieves used pillowcases to steal silverware and other valuables from Buckhead homes.

Police arrested Farhana Sultan on Friday evening, following a tip from an outside jurisdiction, which led them to an apartment in downtown Atlanta.

Lt. Rodney Woody said officers found about $100,000 worth of silverware and other items in the apartment.

"We have items from at least seven burglaries in four jurisdictions in two states," Woody told Buckhead Patch. The other state is Alabama.

Police expect to make more arrests in the near future, Woody said. They are looking for a trio of white men who have been identified as the burglars who take the items from the homes.

Some of the victims of these "pillowcase thieves" have already retrieved their stolen items.

"This is very fluid at this moment," Woody said. "We're combing through reports and contacting victims."

Sultan and the three male suspects are not believed to be connected to other series of silverware thefts where the "professional" silverware burglar uses a glass-cutter to enter homes, steal silverware and escape all while residents are at home.

Woody said there have not been reports of that particular suspect striking Buckhead homes in several months.
