Public Hearing on Police Zone 2 Changes Postponed

Chief George Turner to answer questions about zone's expansion

The Atlanta Police Department has postponed a public meeting to explain changes in Zone 2.

Police Chief George Turner and Zone 2 Commander Robert Browning had been scheduled to appear next Thursday  to explain the planned expansion of Zone 2. But police spokesman Carlos Campos announced late Friday that the meeting had been postponed due to a scheduling conflict.

He said a new time for the meeting will be announced.

The hourlong meeting, the first of five throughout the city, was to have been Thursday, Feb.24,  at the Lodge at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3417 Roswell Road.

Under the plan, Zone 2 will expand to include Cheshire Bridge Road and Morningside areas. City council members Yolanda Adrean and Howard Shook have expressed concerns about the expansion, but Browning has told community groups that he'll receive the necessary additional officers and equipment to cover the extra territory.

The beat changes are the result of an Atlanta Police Department study in which police calls across the city were analyzed. The plan increases the number of beats and is designed to balance the workload from areas found to have the most calls to those with fewer.
