Robbery Suspect Arrested

Man charged with attempting to take woman's income-tax refund check

Atlanta police on Thursday corrected the name of the suspect charged with beating and robbing a woman in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 1801 Howell Mill Road NW Tuesday night.

Police originally reported the name as Shardai Williams. On Thursday, they said the suspect is actually  John R. Wilson, 35. The original name was given in error, police said.

The victim told officers from Zone 2 she went into the Wal-Mart to cash her income-tax refund check of $4,000 and that the suspect followed her as she walked back to her vehicle with her 4-year-old daughter. As soon as she put her daughter in the car, the suspect began punching her and attempted to take the money, according to police spokesperson Kim Jones.

Police charged Wilson with robbery, aggravated assault, cruelty to children, entering an auto and obstruction of an officer. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail.
