Updated: Walmart Parking Lot Video of School Board Member Released

Bartow County authorities say it shows school board member Angie Cornett strike with her SUV a girl, 17, in the parking lot of the Cartersville Walmart.

Updated Thursday, 12 p.m.

While Superintendent John Harper said he wouldn't comment on Cornett's arrest until the school board holds a hearing, her attorney said Cornett didn't think the teen was blocking a parking space and "the girl walked into" Cornett's vehicle," 11Alive reports. The alleged victim says Cornett isn't being punished enough.

Authorities released the Walmart surveillance video they say shows Cornett "lurch forward" in her SUV and strike a pedestrian in a parking space at Walmart and photographs a deputy captured as evidence.

"From watching the video, it's obvious the pedestrian was standing there when the vehicle lurched forward and has to move out of the way very quickly," Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said. "You can't tell close how she was struck or exactly how hard she was struck, but you can see that she was standing there when the vehicle lurched forward and had to move out of the way quickly.

"[Cornett] stated the [alleged] victim leaned into her vehicle and that's how she got marks on her pants. From watching the evidence of the video, I do not buy [her] argument."

Rogers said Cornett, who was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct, could face additional charges.

Doesnt look like the person claiming to be hit made any move to seek help from passers by or displayed any injury and they had to wait what seems like an extremely long time. If they were holding a parking place for someone well it just seems like a long, inconsiderate time to try to hold a parking place. Cant tell if the board member called from help from vehicle.

WOW, can not believe some people believe Cornett's action is ok by defending her and blaming the teenager. Does not matter if it is the teen fault, in the end it is ms Cornett's action that is inappropriate. The teenager is stupid for saving the space but that is what some of the teens do, they think they are invincible at that age and beside a pedestrian is always have the right of way no matter where he/she is at. Ms Cornett can curse, honk and calling the teenager any names in the book but she has no right to plow into the teen with her scare tactic, she can however find another spot to park the car. She should have acted better, she is not a teen but a public figure but now her irresponsible and crazy action not only cause her career demise but also affected her family as a whole as well because I am sure the teenager will be happy to sue

just because you are a pedestrian and stand in the empty parking space does not give anybody the right with the vehicle to pull in when the pedestrian refuse to move

to RJ... there is no law banning people from saving parking space however there are law prevending people with vehicle trying to run pedestrian over.. just find another parking space,it might be far but it is good to exercise....

I don't know which video you and Mark are watching but I have review it twice and there was no where that I saw the teenager was walking into the SUV. There were plenty of empty parking spaces and if ms Cornett just circle another round or waited she would find a closer space than the one the teenager girl reserved for her brother g-friend. I know by watching that video is the parking lot is very busy but I also notice many cars also passed the space where the teenager is standing and that what ms Cornett should also have done instead getting into a tiff with a teenager
