Suspect Arrested in Pharmacy Armed Robberies

Denard Whiteside is suspected of involvement in at least 19 hold-ups.

A suspect has been arrested for a string of armed robberies at CVS Pharmacy stores going all the way back to March, DeKalb Police Chief Cedric Alexander announced at a press conference Friday afternoon.

Denard Whiteside, 29, is suspected of involvement in at least 19 hold-ups at CVS stores in Metro Atlanta - six of them in DeKalb County. Other locations include several in Atlanta, plus one in Johns Creek and another in Cobb County.

"These are brazen armed robberies," Alexander said. "We're glad he's off the street. He threatened and intimidated his victims."

Patch asked Alexander why he thought the suspect only targeted CVS stores. "He got into a sort of routine," he responded. "He cased these places and it (became) pretty easy for him." Alexander added that Whiteside is being investigated for unsolved robberies at other retailers.

DNA evidence from some of the crime scenes was used to track down the suspect, who was found at a residence on Flat Shoals Road Nov. 8.
