Update: Buckhead Burglary Suspect Identifed

Homeowner wounds early morning intruder into family's home on West Paces Ferry

A Buckhead homeowner wounded a burglar with a shotgun blast early Thursday morning, the Atlanta Police Department said.

The suspect, William Leisy Jr., 25, was wounded in the leg and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police spokesperson Kim Jones said. Leisy was charged with burglary.

According to Jones, the homeowner was awakened by the home's alarm, walked to the top of the steps and heard someone downstairs. The homeowner then returned to his room and got his shotgun.

When the homeowner again reached the top of the steps, he saw the suspect climbing up the stairs toward him and his family, and yelled at the burglar to get out of the house. The homeowner fired a warning shot into the floor, but the suspect kept coming toward him, and he shot the suspect in the leg.

The suspect entered a side door, Jones said. According to media reports, the suspect, who was drunk, kicked the door in.
