City of Atlanta Begins Cleanup After Storm Response

Motorists asked to refrain from on-street parking after 8 p.m.

From the City of Atlanta

The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works has begun the process of clearing major arterials of excess remaining gravel and salt debris left from the treatment of the roadways during last week’s winter storm.

Department of Public Works crews will be clearing major arterial streets first, including Peachtree Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and others.

Motorists are asked to refrain from on-street parking after 8 p.m. every evening this week to allow crews to properly sweep the material.

Street sweeping will occur in residential areas during the day, and in business/commercial districts in the evenings.

Residents/businesses may report problem areas requiring attention by calling 404-330-6333 or via email to: publicworks@atlantaga.gov.

We will clear roadways based on priority routes that were treated which included:

The city’s goal is to have all major arterial roadways in the city that were treated last week to be swept by Friday, February 21, 2014.

Additionally, while the City appreciates the efforts of residents and business owners in surrounding neighborhoods who wish to clean areas abutting their property, please note that sand/gravel should not be swept into the streets or trash containers. Sand/salt/gravel can create problems in the city’s storm water system and can also be damaging to equipment.

Therefore, City officials urge residents and business owners to place sand/salt/gravel piles at the curb for disposal by the City. For more information, contact the Department of Public Works to request proper disposal at 404-330-6333 or via email to publicworks@atlantaga.gov.
