Gingrich Takes Fourth Place in Iowa

Blames attack ads for loss of earlier lead, presses on to New Hampshire

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia finished fourth in the Iowa caucuses, behind leaders Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, according to resutls from the Ames, Iowa, Patch.

Romney, former Massachusetts governor, finished just eight votes ahead of former U.S. Sen Santorum of Pennsylvania in the caucuses, the traditional start of the primary season. Now, the candidates head to New Hampshire for the primary there.

Santorum, who who received late support from Iowa's evangelical voters, received 25 percent of the votes along with Romney. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul finished third with 21 percent of the votes cast. Gingrich, , gathered 13 percent.

Gingrich, whose state headquarters are in Buckhead, vowed to stay in the race with a new aggressive stance against Romney, The Associated Press reported in an article on The Atlanta Journal-Constitution web site.
