Staff Report

On Tuesday, MARTA, in partnership with the Buckhead Community Improvement District, the City of Atlanta, the Federal Transit Administration, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the State Road and Tollway Authority, officially opened the Buckhead Bridge that spans GA 400.

The new, LEED-certified bridge connects the east and west sides of the Buckhead community.

“Safe and convenient transit access is critical if we want to create a more pedestrian-friendly city,” said MARTA CEO/General Manager Keith T. Parker in a statement. “The Buckhead Bridge is another opportunity for residents and visitors to move about more freely and to enjoy the benefits of using MARTA.

"This critical transportation infrastructure improvement will give pedestrians on Tower Place Drive and Stratford Road unprecedented access to each side of GA 400 and the Buckhead MARTA station," Executive Director of the Buckhead CID Jim Durrett said in a statement. “The bridge also will allow those pedestrians exiting onto Tower Place Drive direct access to the new, Path400 multi-use, 5-mile trail, currently under construction. These changes will positively impact mobility and the project is one that the Buckhead CID is proud to support and see finished.”
