MARTA to Begin Construction on Pedestrian Bridge at Buckhead Station

The work will require single tracking at Buckhead Station each weekday from  9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, but will not affect the rail schedule, MARTA said in an an announcement.

Weekend single-tracking will be scheduled as needed, and customers will be notified prior to weekend work, the announcement said.

The main portion of construction on the bridge, which will allow pedestrians to cross between Stratford Road to Tower Place Drive over Ga. 400, will begin in spring. The bridge, which will also include a new entrance to the station, is scheduled to be completed in November 2013.

MARTA is building the bridge along with the Buckhead Community Improvement District, Georgia Department of Transportaton, State Road and Toll Authority , Federal Transit Administration and the city of Atlanta.

The project includes:

  • A new entrance on the north end of the existing Buckhead Station.
  • A pedestrian bridge over the northbound and southbound lanes of Ga. 400.
  • An elevator/stair tower, sidewalk, and bridge connection on the east side of Ga. 400.
  • Sidewalk access to elevated walkway from Tower Place to connect to the bridge on the west side of GA 400
