Phoenix Award Redesign Competition Launched

Contest invites college students in metro Atlanta to revamp the highest honor the Atlanta mayor can bestow on citizens, businesses and visitors.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has announced the launch of the redesign competition for the City of Atlanta’s Phoenix Award. This design contest is open to students enrolled in an accredited college or university in metropolitan Atlanta.

The Phoenix Award is the highest honor an individual or group can receive from the mayor of Atlanta. The award recognizes outstanding achievements and service to the city, state, nation or world. Recent Phoenix Award winners include individuals such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunnus, five-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, Tyler Perry, WSB-TV Channel 2 journalist Monica Pearson and Turner Broadcasting System Chairman and CEO Philip Kent.

“I am pleased to announce the redesign competition for the Phoenix Award,” said Reed in a news release. “The Phoenix Award is the highest tribute that I can bestow upon a citizen or visitor to Atlanta, and it symbolizes the best of our city. With the assistance of some of our brightest and most talented students, I am confident we will have a new and fresh look for this esteemed award.”
