Atlanta City Council Approves Renaming Harris Street to Honor John Portman

District 8's Yolanda Adrean votes for change; District 7's Howard Shook votes no, AJC says.

The Atlanta City Council on Monday voted to rename Harris Street for renowned Atlanta architect John Portman, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Renaming the downtown street for Portman was opposed by Buckhead Heritage Society President Wright Mitchell and the officials of other preservation groups. The proposal first came before the City Council in January.

Buckhead District 8 Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean voted for the measure, while District 7 Councilman Howard Shook opposed it, the AJC said.
