Shook Salutes Defeat of Longer Bar Hours

Buckhead's Adrean, Moore also vote against legislation

A move to extend pouring times in Atlanta bars and nightclubs to 4 a.m. was defeated during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. With no debate, the Council voted 11-3 to ‘Adverse’ (defeat) the measure, in so doing upholding a unanimous Adverse recommendation from the Public Safety Committee. 

My thanks to all those who communicated their concern to the Council about the longer hours and the threatened return to the notorious weekly disruption and violence that came to define the Buckhead Village scene of years past. Former Mayor Sam Massell deserves special recognition for his influential lobbying effort.

Against: Kwanza Hall (the legislation’s sponsor), Cleta Winslow, Natalyn M. Archibong.

Not Voting: Yolanda Adrean (who was out of town but had voted to Adverse as a member of the Public Safety Committee).
