Voters Head To The Polls

What you need to know about the candidates for Tuesday's election.

While the is at the forefront in the minds of most voters today, there are still several local contested races that deserve attention here in Buckhead.

District 5

Incumbent John Lewis, D-Atlanta is facing off against Michael Johnson

District 6

U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Roswell, has no Republican rival in the primary. However, two Democrats, Jeff Kazanow and Robert Montigel are fighting for the right to square off against him in November. 

District 11

Incumbent Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, is facing Michael Opitz and William Llop in the primary.

In the State Legislature, there are only a few contested elections, which are: 

District 6 State Senate

The most notable race finds three Republicans, , and in a heated competition to face incumbent , R-Smyrna, in November.

District 38 State Senate 

Incumbent Horacena Tate, D-Atlanta is facing Reginald Crossley. No Republicans are running in the primary.

In the state House of Representatives, there are three contested races in the primary:

District 53 (formerly 44) 

Incumbent Sheila Jones, D-Atlanta, will face Democrats Jason Esteves and Robert Patillo

District 57 

Incumbent Pat Gardner, D-Atlanta, will face Rashad Taylor, D-Atlanta, who was the incumbent in District 55 before part of it merged with 57 in redistricting. 

District 56 

Democrats Ken Brit and former State Rep. “Able” Mable Thomas are battling for the seat vacated by retiring incumbent Kathy Ashe, D-Atlanta.

Fulton County Sheriff 

Incumbent Theodore “Ted” Jackson is facing Democrats Frank L. Brown, Curtis S. Farmer and Richard Lankford, a former Fulton sheriff, and Charles Shelton.

Tax Commissioner

Incumbent Arthur E. Ferdinand is taking on John Jamont and R.J. Morris in the Democratic primary.
