APS Completes Purchase of Site for New Buckhead High School

$55.3 million paid for property with total cost to be $100 million

APS has completed the purchase of a site on Northside Parkway where a new Buckhead high school will be built.

Along with the APS' cost of $55.3 million for the 56.6 acre parcel at 4111 Northside Parkway, current occupant IBM will pay $23.6 million to the former property owner, Jamestown Properties, to satisfy the remainder of its lease agreement, according to an APS news release.

The new school will replace , whose building will be used to alleviate overcrowding at l. The new high school is scheduled to open in August 2013.

Plans are to retain many of the existing structures on the property, including a parking deck and lots and buildings.  The total estimated cost of the project is approximately $100 million, including the cost of the land. The sale was finalized on Monday.

APS will either open a second middle school for Buckhead at the present North Atlanta site on Northside Drive, or establish a sixth grade academy there or at Sutton, with seventh and eighth graders attending a separate school.
