Buckhead Attorney & Board Member of Proposed Buckhead Charter School Announces Bid for APS Board of Education Seat

Mark Riley, a Buckhead attorney, served on the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education from 2002 to 2009 and is seeking reelection to his former seat.

Another Buckhead resident and attorney has announced his intention to not just seek a seat on the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education, but to oust current Board Chairman Reuben McDaniel.

Mark Riley, who served on the APS BOE from 2002 to 2009 in the At-Large Seat 8, the same position he is hoping to hold this time around. In 2009, Riley ran for the open District 4 seat, but was undefeated by current board member Nancy Meister.

Riley described McDaniel as "a disappointing public servant at large school board member" in a recent Reporter Newspapers article.

Riley is known as a proponent of nonprofit charter schools and is on the founding board of directors for the Atlanta Classical Academy, which hopes to gain APS school board approval and open its doors in 2014.
