Buckhead Coalition Welcomes Proposed Charter School

The Buckhead Coalition is standing behind the proposed Atlanta Classical Academy.

The Buckhead Coalition Education Committee, chaired by Eric Tanenblatt, acknowledges with pleasure the academic contributions that will be available to the proposed Atlanta Classical Academy (ACA).  Although a specific site has not been identified, it is considering locations throughout the North Atlanta Public School boundaries, and enrollment would be offered to students from throughout the entire City.

ACA plans classes K-10 in 2014 and grades 11 and 12 in the following years.  Matthew Kirby is the proposed school’s Board Chair.

Coalition president Sam Massell emphasized the all-inclusive interest the Coalition has in education, including both public and private institutions.

“We have had a working partnership with North Atlanta High for teachers and scholarships over many years” Massell reported, “and have provided playground equipment to Smith and take-home books to Rivers among the City’s elementary schools, in addition to building capital funds (of close to $400,000) for the private Atlanta International School. These are only examples of our long-standing commitment.”

“We would prefer that ACA be a Buckhead School, rather than a city-wide institution, nonetheless, it will be beneficial centrally located here. In this regard, we compliment the sponsors on their general interest in education,” added Massell.
