Garden Hills Teacher One of Ten Best in Atlanta

The Atlanta Families' Awards for Excellence in Education picked fifth grade teacher Kelly Petrello as a winner.

Garden Hills Elementary teacher Kelly Petrello was one of 10 winners of the Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education.

Petrello teaches fifth grade at the Buckhead school.

The 10 Atlanta Public Schools educators were selected after a rigorous application, interview and observation process.  The formal awards ceremony last Thursday, held at The Carter Center, was the culminating event in the awards announcement process, which kicked-off with elaborate surprise parties for each educator in late October.

The following educators were named 2013 AFAEE winners:

  1. Jennifer Hall – Joseph E. Brown Middle School, seventh & eighth grades gifted language arts teacher
  2. Corendis Hardy– Frederick Douglass High School, French and world literature teacher
  3. Dwight Ho-Sang – KIPP WAYS Academy, principal
  4. Jenny Lockwood – Springdale Park Elementary, fourth grade teacher
  5. Kelly Petrello – Garden Hills Elementary, fifth grade teacher
  6. Alison Shelton -  Centennial Place Elementary, principal
  7. Tiffany Stembridge-Taylor – Booker T. Washington High School, math teacher
  8. Amber Stewart – KIPP STRIVE and KIPP Vision Academies, gifted education teacher
  9. Brianne Turgeon – Springdale Park Elementary, music & chorus teacher
  10. Haena Yoo – Charles L. Gideons Elementary, first grade teacher
