APS superintendent receives comments on his proposal for Buckhead schools

Buckhead Patch is doing a Live Blog on APS School Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr.'s community meeting on his plans for Buckhead schools. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at North Atlanta High.

Davis, who released his plan March 4, recommended no changes to school districts in Buckhead. Demographers' plans for shifting neighorhoods to different schools drew strong opposition.

The community response to the demographers' series of options, expressed in emails to APS and at previous community meetings, resulted in Davis proposing that the districts remain the same. He called for construction of a new E. Rivers Elementary to begin in 2013, when a new North Atlanta High opens. E. Rivers students are to go to the present Sutton Middle School site during the school construction, with all middle school students going to the present North Atlanta site.

After the E. Rivers school is finished, a spearate sixth grade academy may be established at the present Sutton site, with seventh and eighth graderrs going to a middle school at North Atlanta. Another option is for separate middles cholls at the two sites.
