More than 100 people heard the school board's preliminary plans for redistricting during a public hearing on Monday morning.

More than 100 people attended a joint meeting between the Atlanta Board of Education and the City Council Monday morning to learn about the system's first attempt at redrawing school boundaries.

The meeting was the first step in the process that will ultimately redraw the city's school attendance lines.

The system plans to have its new attendance lines in place by March or April, in time to develop at 2012 budget.

What do you think of the school system's process for getting public input on future attendance zone changes?

They get poor grades for their public participation process. Plans are brought to public meetings fully fleshed out. Then, they tell the participants there will be no public comment period for the meeting. This is very old school policy making. More up to date models for ground up communication are clearly in order.
