Nancy Meister Calls Redistricting Meeting Feb. 8

She, fellow school board member Reuben McDaniel to appear at North Atlanta along with APS officials

Buckhead's school board representative Nancy Meister Friday evening announced that she will hold a community meeting next Wednesday on APS redistricting.

"The purpose of this meeting is for our community to express their interests and ask questions about the proposed redistricting process as it relates to curriculum/instruction, facilities/operations and finance," Meister said in a statement distributed in an e-mail by the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods.

The meeting will be at 6:30 pm. Wedneday, Feb. 8, at the theater.

Meister said that Karen Waldon, deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction; Chuck Burbridge, chief financial officer; and Alvah Hardy, executive director of facilities, will attend.

School board Chairman Reuben McDaniel, the at-large representative for School Reform Team 4 and a Buckhead resident, will also attend, she said.

Residents can begin signing up to speak at 6 p.m., she said. "In an effort to be inclusive of cluster speakers, each speaker will be limited to 2 minutes and each school or neighborhood will have an opportunity to speak in a rotational fashion," she said.

At a community meeting with demographers last Wednesday on the APS' two redistricting options, residents expressed frustration when demographers said they didn't have information on APS finances and facilities.

Speakers also expressed disappointment that School Superintendent Erroll Davis didn't attend.
